Established in 2026, Borouge International is a global polyolefins champion formed from Borouge, Borealis, and NOVA Chemicals, and backed by XRG - ADNOC's international investment arm - and OMV.
Drawing on decades of innovation and trusted customer partnerships, our global platform is designed for performance, reliability, and long-term growth.
From regional origins Borouge, Borealis and NOVA Chemicals built complementary strengths that ultimately converged to form Borouge International, a single global polyolefins platform.

2026
2025—Global
Borouge International launched as a global leader
ADNOC and OMV combined their polyolefins businesses - Borouge and Borealis - alongside the acquisition and merging of NOVA Chemicals, bringing together a premium product portfolio, global production footprint, proprietary technologies and broad geographic sales reach.
Together, these three regional leaders form Borouge International: a new $60bn global polyolefins champion.

2025—Indiana, United States
Next-generation recycling operations brought online
NOVA commissioned a major mechanical recycling facility in Indiana, United States - one of the largest and most sophisticated facilities of its kind globally - further advancing circularity capabilities.

2023—Global
Production scale and circularity capabilities expanded
Borealis advanced circularity through the acquisitions of Rialti and Integra, NOVA Chemicals expanded capacity with a second world-scale AST polyethylene facility in Ontario, and Borouge delivered record production of 5.2 million tons and sales of 5.3 million tons - highlighting the scale and complementary capabilities developed across the businesses.

2022—Global
Borouge entered the public markets and next growth phase
Borouge listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange in a landmark IPO, and construction commenced on the Borouge 4 mega production facility, reinforcing long-term growth ambitions and preparing for global scale.

2015—Global
Innovation, geographic expansion and circularity accelerated
Borouge established Abu Dhabi Innovation Centre and an Application Centre in Shanghai. Borealis acquired German recyclers mtm plastics and mtm compact, while NOVA expanded to the U.S. Gulf Coast with the acquisition of the Geismar olefins facility, strengthening circularity, innovation and geographic reach.

2000—Global
World-class production capacity scaled
Following first production in 2001, Borouge achieved world-scale capacity with the start-up of Borouge 2 and Borouge 3 facilities.
In parallel NOVA Chemicals expanded in Alberta, Canada with a third ethylene facility and a second polyethylene facility using proprietary Advanced SCLAIRTECH™ (AST) technology – with both companies increasing scale, efficiency and production in their respective regions.

1998—Abu Dhabi, UAE
Borouge established in the UAE and Singapore
Borouge was created to develop a world-class polyolefins complex in Abu Dhabi, establishing large-scale production and direct access to high-growth markets that would form the cornerstone of an expanded international production and sales footprint.

1994—Europe
Borealis began operations in Europe
Borealis was formed as a polyolefins and technology leader grounded in innovation and applications expertise; strengthening advanced materials and customer-focused solutions in Europe.

1983—Alberta, Canada
NOVA expanded innovation and applications leadership
NOVA broadened its Canadian operations with two technical and research centers in Calgary, a second ethylene facility, and its first polyethylene facility in Alberta. The company also established Ontario operations through the Moore and St. Clair River polyethylene facilities and the Corunna olefins facility, and acquired its proprietary Advanced SCLAIRTECH™ (AST) technology - capabilities that enabled differentiated, premium product offerings.

1979—Alberta, Canada
NOVA commissioned its first ethylene facility in Alberta, Canada
This milestone marked the foundation of a world-scale industrial complex, expanded Alberta’s natural gas value chain and set the stage for NOVA’s production scale and materials manufacturing.

1954—Alberta, Canada
NOVA Chemicals originated in Alberta, Canada
Established as Alberta Gas Trunk Line Company (AGTL) to build and operate the province’s natural gas system.
AGTL later expanded into petrochemicals, laying the foundation for what would become NOVA Chemicals (NOVA).
